Microscopic findings (H.E. low magnification): Anaplastic astrocytoma showed an increased number of atypical cells with frequent mitoses, but necrosis was not found. Anaplastic astrocytoma has an intermediate malignant potential between astrocytoma and glioblastoma described below.
