- (3)Omphalocele
Macroscopic view; The intestine is outside of the abdominal cavity and is covered by a sac composed of amniotic membrane. It suspected to be a teratogenic defect preventing return of the physiologically herniated midgut into the abdominal cavity during the first trimester (5-10 weeks). Other major congenital anomalies are found concurrently in 30-50% of cases, including intestinal malrotation, or Meckel diverticulum
