Gross appearance: An 35 x 20 mm, excavated peptic ulcer in the lesser curvature (open circle). Its oval appearance with focal gastric folds is suggestive of a recurrent lesion. The ulcer edge is edematous but not irregular. Necrotic debris and exposed vessels are seen at the ulcer base (arrow).
